1) GETTING STARTED WITH AUC

1.1. Your Start Page

When you first log into your AUC account, you will see your Start Page. This screen contains links to all of your personal content, and allows you access to whatever features are enabled on your organization or school's system. You should see panels providing you with access to:

  • your e-mail account (2)
  • your file manager (3)
  • your interactive schedule (4)
  • your people list (5)
  • the latest news stories

You should also see three links in the top right corner of your Start Page, which will remain available no matter where you are in the AUC system. These three links each serve a distinct purpose.

  • Start Page will return you to your personal Start Page, no matter where you are

  • Global Prefs will allow you to specify certain preferences for AUC (1.2)

  • Logoff will end your AUC session and close your account

Before we go on to explore the other features of AUC, we will take a moment to examine the Global Preference options, which customize the appearance of AUC to your liking.

1.2. Setting Your Global Preferences

To adjust your Global Preferences, simply click the link on the top right of every page. This will open the Global Prefs. screen, where you will see the following options:

  • Preferred Name Formatting: This option lets you specify whether your name should be displayed in full, or limited to your first initial.

  • Start Page Width: Since screen resolution varies from user to user, this option lets you specify how many pixels wide you would like your Start Page to be -- you can specify 400, 600, 800, and 1000 pixel widths.

  • File View: In some areas of AUC (most significantly your File Manager), you are able to create, modify, and work with personal files. This option lets you specify the degree of control you want in such situations -- Regular (for novice users) or Expert (for experienced AUC users). More information in section 3.2.
