Future Release Preview

The Road to 0.7.2

Last updated 8/22/00

Version 0.7.1 of AUC was released on August 22, 2000 with a lot of new features over 0.6.x. The next release of AUC will be 0.7.2, and will include bugfixes and new features that did not make it into 0.7.1. Here's a list of what's on the agenda right now:

  • Capability for instructors/administrators to explicitly assign students to courses.
  • Ability for students to submit work to a classroom by uploading it to a "drop box."
  • Ability to share file directories between two or more courses.
  • Further codebase cleanups and migration to CVS.
  • Spell checking in mail composer.
  • Public method of searching user database.
  • Better address book and user directory.
  • More seemless integration with kernel-enforced quotas (email deletion doesn't fail, etc).
  • Multiple file upload.
  • More complete file management (cut, copy, and paste files).
  • User database specifies male/female.
  • Ability to store a user's photo in the database.
  • Ability to associate arbitrary square logos with each classroom, instead of the default department-wide graphics that come with AUC.
  • BCC and other fields (user-configurable) in outgoing messages.
  • Postpone feature for email.
  • Ability to restrict access to certain classes by group or role.

If you have something to add to this list, please post your suggestion to the mailing list, and I'll add it.
